The ESS Cup Tour features American teams at the U15-U19 age groups facing off against the best from the Basque Country, well known as one of the top futbol regions of Spain. While the Basque Country comprises just 5% of the Spanish population, 25% of La Liga teams are Basque. At the ESS Cup you’ll face academy teams from La Liga clubs Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao, SD Eibar, Deportivo Alaves, and CA Osasuna, along with the famous Basque academies Antiguoko KE and Danuk Bat CF. The ESS Cup is set in beautiful San Sebastián with matches played at Real Sociedad’s Zubieta training facility.
Play your first three ESS Cup group matches during the first weekend of the tour. The following week, immerse yourself in the futbol and culture of San Sebastián and the Basque Country. Watch Real Sociedad train, tour their Anoeta stadium, take a day trip to the French Basque seaside villages of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz, and back in San Sebastián enjoy the number one rated beach in all of Europe: La Concha. The following weekend play the ESS Cup semifinal and final matches and see a La Liga match before your trip home.
Arrive at Bilbao’s Loiu Airport where an ESS guide will meet you to board the bus for the one-hour ride to San Sebastián, home of the ESS Cup. Check into the residence and that night enjoy a welcome dinner at the clubhouse of famous Basque academy and ESS Partner Club Antiguoko KE.
In the morning ride the famous Funicular up to Monte Igueldo, a famous lookout spot and castle high above San Sebastián. In the afternoon get on the field for training, followed by team meetings at the residence facility. Dinner in the center of San Sebastián before resting up for your first day of the ESS Cup.
Play your first two group matches of the ESS Cup against the top La Liga academies and teams from the Basque Country.
Play your final ESS Cup group match in the morning. Following lunch, enjoy the rest of the afternoon at Ondaretta Beach.
Watch La Liga club Real Sociedad train in the morning and head to France in the afternoon for stops in the Basque Coast villages of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz.
Start the day off with a tour of Real Sociedad’s Anoeta Stadium. In the afternoon, team meeting and training before dinner.
Take a morning tour of San Sebastián’s famous Old Town and in the afternoon play a friendly match.
Morning tour of San Sebastián’s “Centro” district (downtown), followed by afternoon training.
Take the day off from playing and enjoy the number one rated beach in all of Europe: La Concha. That afternoon explore San Sebastián’s Antiguo neighborhood before dinner.
Play in the ESS Cup semifinal match in the morning, and hopefully in the final that afternoon. After dinner head to watch a La Liga match.
